Tape the Movie started in 2008 as a Blogger page. Four film students from different universities who'd met at a short film festival, frustrated that no one was writing seriously about the films they cared about. Not frustrated in an angry way — just tired of the gap between what was being made and what was being covered.

The name came from a roll of gaffer tape sitting on a desk during a very long edit session. Someone said “we should call it something” and the tape was there. It stuck. We bought the domain without thinking too hard about it.

What we do

We write about independent films, documentaries, and short films that deserve more attention than they get. We don't do press screenings or follow PR cycles. We watch something when we hear about it, we watch it again, and then we write about it. That's the whole process.

Over the years we've interviewed filmmakers, attended festivals as press, and occasionally helped with production on projects we believed in. The community has grown through word of mouth — we've never run an ad or had a social media strategy.

Who we are

We're a small group. The original four are still involved in various capacities, alongside a handful of regular contributors who came in over the years. We all have other jobs. This is something we do because we love it.

If you want to get in touch, the contact page is the best way. We read everything, though we reply slowly during busy periods.
